This is archive homepage of
Fast Video Download Firefox extension.
Since 18 March 2008 extension belongs to Applian company. Many people have fun watching videoclips posted to concerned servers like Google Video. These sites provide a Macromedia Flash-powered interface but never offer a direct links to source video file. But some files may be removed from server for various reasons.
Nevertheless all of these sites usually write some part of URLs in web-pages themselves. So, any web-developer or cracker can find some way to compile a correct direct URL and download desired file.
In Summer 2006 I found a
VideoDownloader site which was offering an automated download service supporting large range of video-hosting servers. Later its creator released same-named extension for Firefox. It's a really nice tool, but unfortunately the extension needs to open a pop-up window to send URL to VD.N server and proceed it with inside algorithm. Moreover, the files in a save dialog have identical name and extension like "download_video.php". I'm not sure that it's an ultimate quality of service.
In august I tried to create my first own extension (
Google Video Downloader) to test another way to grab desired URL. As i see, some people find it quite useful.
Finally I managed to develop the improved downloader supporting two more servers. Many time has left... Today, FVD is useful and powerful ever-updating videograbber that steadily growing up in popularity.
